Accessing Mental Health Services - Webinar replay

Recorded 15 February 2023

There are a lot of mental health services out in the market today, but it is hard to understand how to best access them, know what is available and whether they are the most appropriate for your situation.

In this webinar we speak with Natasha Morris, a psychosocial recovery coach and Suzy Romanous, a counsellor from Saides Counselling about the best way to approach this.

The key points are:

- Your GP is the best starting point and gateway to different mental health services and supports. Your GP will determine your clinical/medical needs (Medicare), help you access community-based services and support you in your application to the NDIS. The NDIS focuses on helping you build independence to connect with your community.

- Build a support team around you including medical/clinical professionals, your therapies, informal supports (family/friends) - and you should include community based supports as well such as:

https://www.sane.org - Sane offers free information, resources, connections, community and counselling to people and carers (friends/families) needing mental health support.

https://www.mindspot.org.au - Mindspot is a free online and telephone based mental health service.

This is just scratching the surface of accessing mental health services. Every situation is very unique and individual. Hop onto Kinora for any further questions - our NDIS community of participants, their families, support coordinators, psychosocial recovery coaches and counsellors are here to help. https://www.kinora.com.au
